Two types of subscriptions — very different urgency levels
Not all subscriptions carry the same urgency after a move. Physical delivery subscriptions (anything that ships to your door) need updating before your next scheduled delivery — or you lose that shipment. Digital subscriptions need updating to prevent billing failures when your card renews and the billing address doesn't match.
Physical delivery — update before next shipment
Meal kit services (HelloFresh, Blue Apron, Marley Spoon, etc.)
Log into your account and update your delivery address before your next order cutoff date — typically 5 days before delivery. Most meal kits allow in-app address changes. If you skip this and a box ships to your old address, call customer service immediately; some will reship or provide credit.
Amazon Subscribe & Save
In your Amazon account, go to Returns & Orders → Subscribe & Save. Update your default delivery address. Note that individual subscriptions may have separate delivery addresses if you've ever customized them — review each one.
Magazine and newspaper subscriptions
Call the subscriber services number on your magazine's masthead or visit the publisher's website. Most magazine subscriptions have a dedicated subscriber portal at [publicationname].com/subscribe or via subscription managers like Zinio or Readly.
Subscription boxes (Birchbox, Loot Crate, Ipsy, etc.)
Log into each box's account and update your shipping address. Many subscription box companies have monthly cutoff dates — update before the cutoff for the month or you may miss a cycle.
Online shopping — update default addresses
Update your default shipping address on every platform you order from regularly. The most common ones people forget: Amazon, Walmart.com, Target.com, eBay, Etsy, Chewy, Instacart, DoorDash, Uber Eats, and any retailer you have a saved account with.
Digital subscriptions — billing address matters
Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Peacock, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming services don't ship anything to you — but they have your billing address on file for payment processing. When your credit card renews, the billing address on the card must match the address your streaming service has on file, or the transaction may fail. Update streaming service billing addresses within the first month of moving.
